Log 1 - From the Start!

Hello! Welcome to the first public devlog of this mod. Most of the development has been happening privately but now that we have an official html5 page up I think it's a good time to start sharing some of it's development! Special thanks to fidbro237 for the html5 port!

From the start!

This was originally supposed to be a one-shot mod for the FNF Halloween Night Havoc Modding contest . The idea itself was an in the moment idea inspired off of Spine_Apple's : Fun facts with Squidward before Halloween Animation and gave me an idea of a funny ghost that sang to BF but didn't like confrontation. I wanted it to be a different perspective mod because I was always fond of those. What inspired the Mod's song and story flow was the idea of having playable cutscenes. My personal goal of joining the jam was to make one more thing I'm proud of before leaving the FNF Modding community.

It took around two weeks to make all the assets (art, music, etc) and two weeks to code and troubleshoot the game. We originally used Kade Engine but later switched to Psych Engine mid development to accommodate for the midevent charting. There where many learning curves during the transferring phase because of how new the engine was to us but we all got the hang of it! During the second half of the development we had a lot of VCs together troubleshooting and brainstorming how to implement all of the misevents into the program.

First Revised Concept of the Ghost
Names we were gonna call her were "Boo Bop" or "Bixi" or "Bixi Boo" But ended up just keeping it as "Boo". Aimed for a generic looking ghost design but still cute!

Before an official title the name of the mod was just "Vs. The Ghost".  I was still hesitant with calling it "Vs. Boo" because there were so many ghost characters named "Boo", and the character wouldn't have stood out. At the time I've been listening to a lot of Halloween music and one that I would play a lot was called "don't get spooked". The playlist featured cute Halloween themed art and it was overall very nice music! Unfortunately that video got taken down. She stayed nameless for a while, even after release.

End of Jam/Initial Release:

When we released the mod, a day before the jam, it got front page and two stars. Which is a huge deal! Absolutely insane to think that a one song mod could get so much love in such a short time span. In the coming days we saw a lot of people play the mod and enjoy it! We decided to continue development despite getting 5th place in thr Jam

Aftermath of the Demo

We took a good month break after the release because that was a lot haha! During this time we recruited more members to help with the development and got into Funkin Expo 2 .  Slowly but surely we've been piecing everything together. Development overall has been fun!

Thank you for reading, and I hope you all have a good day/night!
